The following are real-world examples of design process work that I've done for past clients.
It's almost always easier to identify good design by looking at something that's finished - but not always as easy to know where to find good work. When I put together Visual Brand Boards, I collect good examples and organize them into categories categories that I feel are stylistically coherent and supportive of your brand.
For this client, the category names were words like "Bold & Modern" or "Scholarly & Rigorous."ng finisy to kn
This kind of design work can sometimes be called "Art Direction," but I think of it as the process of making the best possible visual design choices with the brand elements you already have, and making sure they express the clearest impression of your brand voice.
In this example taken from the current Mission Driven Data website, the text is perfectly legible and the calls to action are clear. But there might be ways to make better visual choices using these (or similar) elements to clarify the information and make each column easier to browse.
This example shows that without dramatically changing the colors, icons, layout, etc. we can arrive at a design that feels clearer and a bit more professional. It's just an exploration, but still, an example of what's possible with visual refinements.
At this stage of the design process, when we know enough about the important elements of visual branding, I can put together mockups that demonstrate the use of color, typography, layout, and illustration.
These are the design artifacts that I can hand off to developers via permanent Figma links for use in developing the real site.
Although usually do this kind of work with more technical web applications, its occasionally helpful to do site mapping via diagrams. In this format, we might explore ways of making the user's journey toward registration more efficient, as well as simplifying site content.
These are examples of illustrations I've done for clients in the past - some of them are more what'd I'd consider "spot illustrations" and can be used to add personality to a website.
I created the radial diagram for an organization that wanted to better communicate their customers' user journeys to internal audiences.
